We are a community-focused zine centering radical food stories, art and culture. We are a space for sharing stories, art and building community around food. We are a platform for writers, artists and creators who are inspired by food culture and stories in their art.
MALL FOOD is a collaborative issue about food culture at West Edmonton Mall, edited by the Hungry Zine team and supported by the Mitchell Art Gallery at MacEwan University as part of THE MALL, an exhibition curated by Carolyn Jervis and Hannah Quimper-Swiderski, January 20-April 1, 2023, at the Mitchell Art Gallery.
Featuring cover art and spot illustrations by Michelle Campos Castillo, 28 contributors, and riso-printed in 3 colours by Yolkless Press.
Loosely organized to feel like a tasty adventure through the Mall, the stories, poems, interviews, and illustrations that follow are an homage to West Edmonton Mall: memories of summer jobs in food courts, relationships blossoming over MexiFries, one’s first taste of independence, and stressful family trips to the mall only assuaged by the promise of a tasty treat. Good times, capitalism, over-consumption, nostalgia, the 80s/90s/y2k eras, this issue is truly a Mindbender (RIP).
